How to add a key to a BMW G series BDC3 module using CGDI K2 adapters—no soldering required. People generally prefer traditional soldering, but we can acquire these adapters cheaply and they work for people who prefer convenience, cleanliness, and avoiding the risk of soldering.
Why Use Adapters?
The adapters are described as convenient for people who don’t like soldering, don’t want to make a mess, or want to avoid the risk of damaging the original key. The CGDI K2 adapters are not free—they cost money—but they are useful.
Disassembling the Key
The process begins with disassembling the key fob. Original keys typically have small Torx screws.

The circuit boards of the Chinese replacement and the original keys are practically identical. Even the numbers match.
Preparing the Adapter
The key’s circuit board is placed into the adapter. In the CGDI K2 menu, go into “Key Adding” and select the appropriate option.
The tool shows a soldering diagram. The board matches the diagram, confirming adapter 32 is the correct one. The board is the same, so it fits.
Carefully insert the board into the adapter, warning not to force it because these are delicate components. The fit is even, with nothing forced.
Reading the Key
With everything inserted, the read function is initiated. Read and save the original key data.
Writing to the Key
Next, the type of key must be selected. Select BDC3 option. There is also an option for “board replacement only,” but it doesn’t make a difference because it can be changed later. The adapter can sometimes be tight to remove from one of the clips, so it shouldn’t be forced.
The file is written. The contacts need to be adjusted slightly so they fit properly, and the clips go in easily. The adapter is connected, and the process continues. A message appears indicating the old data will be cleared. Writing takes a bit longer, as seen. The file is written successfully.
At this point, a key has been added to a BMW G-series with BDC2/BDC3 and several other key types. The adapter set includes three adapters for different BMW types.
With the adapters, the process is convenient.
